The only time I have seen this, (I never had a virus), was when I
was accidentally or incorrectly loading too many drivers from too
many places to control my hard drive controller __card__.
(This was way back in the "dark ages"...)
In my case, software was "controlling" the drive from different places
as if it were two drives.  You need to find out what "should" be controlling
the drives, and see if this sounds like a possibility.
Note: Having "phantom" drives like this generally considered to be
dangerous to your data.      Rick Glazier
