Hi All,

I don't know if you've ever encountered the inability of IE at times to
download files, i.e., when trying to download a file, the save-to-disk
option does not come up at all, and you are presented with a therefore
meaningless "file download dialogue" that does nothing?

I should say here that I'm Using
Windows M.E. and IE6, though it also happened with IE5.5 on the same OS.

When you've gone past the save-to-disk option you come to the file
download dialogue itself, under normal operation. You then click or hit
Enter to start the download. Now, you come to "close this dialogue when
download completes, checkbox (not checked: by default). If, however,
you decide to check it by pressing the spacebar, that download will
complete; BUT YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD ANY MORE FILES UNTIL YOU
CHANGE IT. So, how can you do this when you no longer have - or have
disabled - access to the file download dialogue? You can go into
Internet Explorer tools Options, and delete temporary internet files.
It seems to me that the "close this dialogue when download completes"
checkbox when checked effectively closes the functioning of the IE file
download dialogue.

I just wondered if anyone knows why this happens in the first place?, is it
some kind of security problem and how could it be sorted so it doesn't come
back so easily. Are there any knowledge base articles or other info
available on this.

paul.
