Help! Recently, I bought a new Dell computer. It came with McAfee already
installed on it. I recently downloaded two free trial programs that come with
it...their firewall and something called Privacy. It seems like ever since I
did that, when I boot up, Internet Explorer automatically opens a screen
called PCSecurity???.com and if you click off the "X" to get rid of it, it starts
opening like 20 IE screens one after another almost simultaneously so fast that
it locks up my system. Sometimes, I'll find a notice at the bottom of my
screen that says the screens are in an IE group. I try to right click the group
and delete it that way, but it doesn't work usually, and then when I bring up
the task manager and try to close it that way, a whole bunch of "end program"
signs show up on the bottom. Then I have to delete each one by hand, if I can
even get that far. My question is this. How do I go about stopping IE from
opening up automatically like that? (I use AOL). Is there a way to find the
"culprit" that is causing this and delete it? If not, do you suggest I do a
restore point to get rid of it? I have since deleted the Privacy feature since
it hung up my computer so bad before showing up it just annoyed me anyway. I
have kept the firewall beause I like that feature, but if that's what's
causing it to do that, then I'll get rid of that too. It is possible that this
happened unrelated to the McAfee software installation. We did alot of
downloading before I installed the firewall and this might have gotten onto my system
before I installed the firewall and realized how many cookies were being sent
to my machine without my knowledge! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
