Sorry Phil, I thought I'd spelt that out.
I want a Notepad with BOLD, ITALIC and UNDERLINE.
(tho at a pinch, I could do without italic)

Mary's response was interesting - use Outlook Express.  Very lateral
thinking, Mary.  You're right, it has all those facilities.

However, for me, OE is a bit like Word and Wordpad - a little too complex
and clever. Plus it has the proprietary coding format that makes backing up
and copying such a nightmare.

No, Notepad would be ideal if it just had a few more frills. There must be
problems associated with writing these facilities into text editors,
otherwise I'm sure all the Notepad clones would have them.
