In a message dated 2/24/99 3:16:01 AM Eastern Standard Time, [log in to unmask]
asked questions about AOL:
<< Is it intrusive to Win 98. >>
No.
<< How big a directory does it create and does it grow. >>
My installation has remained steady at about 7 MB.
<< Win 98 and IE 4 is already installed with Eudora as a Email client
.....will AOL try to change all this ....or does it just accept it. >>
Accepts it. Bear in mind Eudora, Pegasus, Outlook Express, etc. will not work
with AOL. You must use AOL's proprietary e-mail client.
<< Does it just create itself a DUN account or does it change network settings
? >>
"Beneath the surface" it probably uses DUN in some way, but the dialer is
built into the AOL client. You get a different kind of screen from the regular
Windows DUN.
<< Will it peacefully co exist with other DUN accounts ? >>
Yes, I use Earthlink with Windows DUN on the same machine, and the two do not
interfere with each other.
<< Do I need to create the account by running one of those trial CDs or can
it be done on line ? >>
You must use the AOL client software to access AOL. The software is available
for download at www.aol.com. If you have a CD, that would be faster and
easier.
<< Do you still log on to AOL and then access the NET.....in other words is
it still a front end for the Net or do you log on like a regular ISP and
then log on to AOL special features ? >>
You still log on to AOL, then access the Internet.
