<<where do you find how to configure and do this type of thing on your own?>>
Not sure what this has to do with Regedit.
However, to answer the question, most people do not utilise the full power
of a Google search to its full potential.
Just run a Google search for the subject you wish to know, and you'll find
tutorials, forums, help-digests etc aplenty. The secret of successful
searching is to learn how to refine your search terms so that you don't get
too much extraneous material.
There are even tutorials on Searching---the ones on the Google and
Astavista sites are a good starting point.
There are Field searches, Boolean searches, and all manner of
nasty-sounding names. They are not difficult to master, and a little time
spent on this is well worth it. The power of the Internet never ceases to
amaze me.
To use your example, you might search for "Winsock.dll replacement
tutorial". Or "Winsock problems" (which would probably give you too many
returns. The first few are generally the most popular in ranking order, so
most likely to give the desired answers).
In fact, I'd venture to suggest that most of the questions asked on this
Digest can probably be better answered by a well-phrased Google search.
