I have a similar problem in another ,unrelated, program. The work around I
have been using is to open the grouped image in a new file, where it exists
all alone. After un grouping, I make my changes, and then select all and
regroup. Then it an easy operation to simply copy and paste into the
original working document.

Just be careful not to move any of the individual ungrouped items during
the process, and this should work fine.
