This probably has nothing to do with the virus.  McAfee's update
system has a lot of serious problems.
You didn't give us details about your errors:
1. If you're getting something about 'lack of memory' at the very end
of the download itself, McAfee knows about this problem, mainly in
the later 3.xs, and used to have a patch to download from their
support site.  You can register for free and look around there.
2. If you're getting strange messages when you try to install, the
download file is probably corrupt, even if that's not what the
message says.  This happened to me 4 times running before I finally
downloaded by hand, as below.
In any case, the easiest solution is to tell your sysadmin or
security people.  They will have the 2 codes you need to download the
upgrade file by hand.  If I'm not mistaken, the solution to "1" is a
once-only, since the download bug is gone from the current versions.
