I believe these are files left in each directory by MS Anti-Virus that was
delivered with DOS 6. They are used to save information on the files that
have been checked for viruses so a quick check can be made later when the
file is used to see if it has changed since the last virus scan. You can
delete them any time you want, but if you are still using the virus scanner
that created them, they will reappear.
