Nancy,

The following is from a Lockergnome newsletter reader
(http://www.lockergnome.com/). I haven't had a need to try this but it must
have worked for him. It involves changing the Registry so if your not
comfortable with this, or know someone who is, it's best to reinstall XP as
Ian stated, either over itself (which will keep your settings, etc.) or a
clean install. Here is his solution:

"I came across this registry hack to 'fool' my system into thinking OE was
not installed. This works for Windows 2000 / XP (and even ME), but be sure
to backup your system before you change anything. While you are logged on as
an administrator, open the registry editor. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \
SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components. The OE branch
starts with 44BBA840 and ends with 00AA00B6015C. Double-click the
IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value; change it from 1 to 0, and then click OK.
Quit the Registry Editor, and then download and install Internet Explorer 6
from Windows Update. It should note that OE is missing and download /
install it without having to download all of IE 6.0."

To open the Registry Editor, go to Start / Run, type in "regedit" and hit
the "Enter" key.

To save/backup your address book, bring it up from OE or the Start Menu /
Programs / Accessories and go to File / Export / Address Book (WAB)..., name
the file and save it where you want.

For the folders and email, go to Tools / Options / Maintenance tab and click
the "Store Folder" button for it's location. It's in Documents and Settings,
I don't recall the default path as I moved mine to another drive. Copy the
entire folder to another location, i.e., CD, DVD, or My Documents.

To save other settings in OE (mail rules, signatures, etc.), in Registry
Editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and select Identities. Go to File /
Export... Do the same for HKEY_USERS / DEFAULT / Identities.

I need to reinstall OE ver. 6 on my computer. I use Windows XP. Any
suggestions? I do not want to lose my saved emails and address book,
if possible.
