I suggest trying Kempston Software's (UK) POP3 Scan Mailbox , available as a
freeware download @ http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~kempston/smb/intro.html .

It's well-written, stable and accomplishes all that you asked for (and more)
in your post, and has worked performed flawlessly under every flavor of
Windows I've installed it on.

I've been using it for almost three years now without any problems
whatsoever.
