This is the Blaster worm. If running XP you must enable the internet
firewall. (go to help and type in firewall and follow the instructions.)
after the firewall has been enabled you will be able to access the internet
long enough to download the removal tool from many sources such as
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html .
Here you will have 6 different choices for removal tools, I just downloaded
all of them and ran them in all the infected machines that I have serviced.
After running the tools, you will need to update Windows to get the patch
that closes the vulnerable port which let the worm in. This would also be a
good time to completely update Windows. (critical security updates, drivers
and such for your system.)
The Windows firewall is not known to be a very effective firewall, so now
would be a good time to invest in one, or scrub the net to find a free one.
If you can't find one, let me know and I will E Mail one to you directly
that will work for you.
HTH and good luck!
