That is why you MUST say you cannot fax. Fax is limited to 14.4kbps
maximum (while most often it does degrade to 9600). But a telephone
line MUST support fax (which is actually sending tones in the range of
300 to 3000 Hz but modulated to transmit up to 14.4kbps). Therefore, a
phone company is required to check and clear a line when you complain of
poor fax rx/tx.
Just stay away from baud or bps. Talk fax and they have to listen.
