Milt,

There is no "universal" setting for the entire Office97 suite.
As far as I know, Word is the only application that has this feature.  You
can check each of the other applications by entering a fraction and see
what happens.

For Word (95 or 97), click TOOLS -- AUTO CORRECT -- AUTOFORMAT AS YOU
TYPE -- and turn off the checkmark for REPLACE FRACTIONS AS YOU TYPE.
