Thanks to all that replied, the problem is now fixed.
Jim, I did use add/remove for the uninstall, and then deleted the necessary
directories, and then used the utility from Microsoft to remove all traces
of Office in the registry, it's called Erase97.exe. But, none of this
helped, unfortunately. I did forget to check the printer though because
this puter has no printer attached. But, it seems that either Office or
Win98 decided to install a generic/text printer anyways! My client bought a
printer and when I installed it and it's drivers, all was right with the
world again.
I guess that just because you don't have a printer to install doesn't mean
that Microsoft stuff won't install one anyways! <G>
