Hello Jackie,
To elaborate on the reply by Russ, probably the easiest way to do this if
you have a CD/DVD burner on the Win98 machine, is to copy or burn the entire
Outlook Express (OE) Store folder from the Win98 machine to CD/DVD. Then,
with the CD/DVD in the XP optical drive, use the Outlook Express (OE) import
feature to import any or all of the folders or messages. If your OE is
unused, as with a clean install or on a new machine, then you could replace
the entire store folder with the one from the CD/DVD. Using a floppy disk is
not feasible for this as most of the individual files (.dbx) will be too
large.
Another method is to use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" in XP
located at Start \ Programs \ Accessories \ System Tools. The wizard
requires either a home network or a direct cable connection using a null
modem serial cable or a DirectParallel cable. These cables are available at
most computer stores and shops. You may want to explore this feature as it
can be used to transfer settings you may want on the new machine such as for
IE, OE and display.
If the Win98 machine is USB capable there's a USB Direct Link cable that can
be used. It can be found at most computer stores and online. Here is one
online with a good price:
Meritline USB Direct Link Cable, USB to USB Cable For PC (Data Transfer -
$12.99:

Good luck,

Subject: [PCSOFT] outlook express
I know this has been covered before, and I thought I had it, but I
guess I didn't.
Just got a new computer, Win XP. I want to import my messages from the old,
Win 98. Both Outlook Express 6. Got my address book by exporting to a shared
file, worked great. But I can't seem to import my messages.
When I try to export from the old box, it only wants to export them to
Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange. Would someone mind walking me
though it again?
Thanks,
Jackie Jackson
