I stand corrected.
Since I'm in the market for a new boombox, I did some
checking around.

Late last month Philips Electronics announced the release
of their "eXpanium" cd player. It can play standard audio CDs
as well as CD-R or RW disks with MP3 files.

Panasonic has nothing listed for MP3 playing (except PC equipment)
and Sony only has their RAM STICK Walkman (no CD)

Looks like Philips is "first to market" with a CD __AND__ MP3 player.
This thing is sooooo new, that only Circuit City and Amazon.Com have it.
And my local Circuit City guys had no idea what I was talking about. (as
usual)

Thanks Ian.
