More detail would be a big help. (Which icon?)
Get Tweaki from MS and it will get rid of the difficult icons with one
click.
A simple search using AltaVista (Remove icon from desktop) turned up four
hits on this subject in the first 10. Search engines will often answer
questions like these very efficiently.
