Subject: [PCSOFT] Upgrading Windows
I have a Toshipa Satellite 225CDS laptop. It is a pentium, 1MGZ, 2G hard drive. This was given to me to give to my twin girls. They will be mainly using it for school reports. Since they are used to WORD 97 that is what I'm going to install on it. Also, they will be doing web surfing for school reports. They may play some games on it, mostly simple internet games. Right now it has Windows 95 on it. There are no files on the computer that need to be saved.
- I would like recommendations for a good (free?) filter to use for web surfing my children.
- I would like to install Windows 98 (I have the disk) although there is a sticker on the laptop that says "Designed for Windows 95". I need to have a step-by-step go-by on the best way to do that. I will add that unlike most in this group, I am terrified of DOS since I have gotten in it before and not been able to get out :)
TIA,
Anita Faulkner
Anita,
You will need to upgrade the BIOS of the computer before you can upgrade to Win98. You will also need to download Win98 drivers for the laptop. The upgraded BIOS adds support for Win98. The drivers and BIOS download can be found here along with directions on how to upgrade your model to Win98:
