Greetings all--
After sending a copy of the keys Mr. Meagher requested, I
appended a question.
Mr. Meagher was kind enough to respond to my query about an
excessive number of HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry keys
Network
Persistent
Recent (I had seven.),
I thought I'd confirm his diagnosis, i.e., that since I'm not on
a real network (just a dial-up), I only need one instance of that
key.
After copying c:\windows\system.dat and user.dat to another
directory I've set up for backup registries, I deleted the six
extra entries using regedit. I shut down the machine, re-started
it, and it ran/runs just fine. I verified in regedit that the
extra entries were indeed gone--they were. I then copied the
registry files to my backup folder, and overwrote the former ones
(since everything was/is working fine).
Thanks very much, Jim--
