  I have a couple of machines on which I've copied the OS CD to a hard
drive partition so that it's instantly available to load additional
drivers (or whatever).
  I'd noticed that these partitions typically show the "CD-ROM drive"
icon rather than the "hard drive" icon (and I like that it does this!),
but I never knew *why* that happened.  Thanks for the tip!
