I have found that Open Office is very similar to Microsoft Office. When you
start, go to 'file' / 'new' and it gives you the choice of the type of
document. After that it is basically the same as Microsoft Word/Excel. You
will want to download and install a free spell checker that will work with
Open Office. Also, I 'save as' .DOC or .EXL type files so that they can
be used with Microsoft Office if I send them to other people or to my
laptop.

When opening existing files, a double click on the file will open it in the
appropriate format.

Toomas and all who helped me,
Tonight I downloaded O.O. from a friend. I had earlier downloaded Java and
I think that helped with the download too. Anyway, now all my current
problems are fixed! Hooray! O.O. opens all my documents that I couldn't
open and they look great. And, my problem with Ebay is fixed. Java fixed
that. I'm even getting used to working with files in XP, so all is better
for me now.

Now I just have to learn how to do spreadsheets in O.O.

Thanks to everyone! The help from you all has been invaluable. I've
learned a LOT!!
