As we continue to try to clean-up this XP Pro station our children use, we
have discovered many installations of games that were used briefly and then
abandoned. The associated uninstall applets invoked by the XP Add/Remove
program function do not work and report some corruption or other problem
with the original installation information. Some, like the several editions
of Grand Theft Auto, do not even appear in the Add/Remove list although we
can locate and invoke them using Windows Explorer. We cannot
reinstall/uninstall them as often recommended because the CD-ROM's for these
either were borrowed or have been traded at our local Game Stop. So it
appears that our next stop is to be a third-party uninstaller program like
Clean Sweep or MacAfee Uninstaller.
The question that we have for the list is whether anyone has had any
experience good or bad with these two uninstaller applications or some
recommendation of others. There was some discussion of these in the
archives, but it wasn't very timely or conclusive.
