There is an excellent *free* file recovery program PC Inspector File
Recovery that works with both FAT and NTFS.  You can download it from

I would advise downloading with another PC so you don't overwrite the file
that you have lost.  I've installed on a PC but then burned the contents of
the Program Files sub directory to a bootable CD so I can reduce the
chances of over-writing the deleted file.
