My boss received an intercompany, automatically generated e-mail reply from
someone who was out of their office. She wants to know how she can do this
when she is out of the office.

I am sorry, I do not have Microsoft Messaging however Microsoft Exchange is very similar I think.

In Microsoft Exchange there is an option under Tools --> Out Of Office Assistant
This will allow you to return a reply when you receive an e-mail and you are "out-of-the-office". This will work whether you are logged in or not.

There is also something called "Inbox Assistant". This will allow you to reply to a specific type of message with a template e-mail. I have used this sometimes but for what you are describing I think you need Out Of Office Assistant.

For more specific instructions on using the assistants you may contact me directly.
