  Your bookmarks were gone?  I don't know where Opera stores them, but if
that happened in IE, I'd strongly suspect that the OS had, for some reason,
decided that my account profile (under "Documents and Settings") was bad,
and had generated a new default profile for my account.
  I'm not sure what events can cause NT/2K/XP to do that, but it does
occasionally happen.

  It may be that Sygate is looking to the profile for a configuration file,
and not finding it.
