Hi Linda and Others,
From all indications, my previous post on this subject made it to the
archives but was not distributed to the list. I have inserted it below to
include a link for the AVG Free download page.
For Grisoft, and other companies, to focus your attention on the products
they sell is nothing more than good business practice. While doing this, the
free products they offer are less conspicuous and you sometimes have to look
for them. Products vary and, before purchase, I would suggest anyone
evaluate the advantages and/or additional features of a paid version over
the free version. Then determine in their opinion if the cost is warranted.
Grisoft has a basic comparison between the free and commercial versions on
this page:

Hi Linda,
GRISOFT will continue to offer the AVG free version for home use. They are
replacing version 7.1 with 7.5 which has been updated, has a new look, and
is compatible with Windows Vista. The new version is available now and
version 7.1 will be discontinued on 15 January 2007. Present users are being
notified over a period of time so as to not overload the servers and give
everyone ample time to upgrade. If you haven't received a notice, you should
over the next few weeks. Of course, you can download the new version and
upgrade at any time without waiting to be notified.

Thanks for the information on AVG. I had not been able to get through and
that explains it. Would I be better off to just buy the professional
version? I have been very happy with the free version and I have used Panda,
MacAfee and Norton. I did not see that any of them were a bit better, in
fact I had a few problems with all of them.
