Hi Jim,

I recommend you double check all the settings in your Verizon Web mail
account for options that cause the problem. Verizon is not available in my
area but I find it difficult to accept that they place certain restrictions
on your incoming mail without you having the option to say "No". If the
situation is such that you have no say in the matter, I would be looking for
another ISP. Cable Internet would be a good option if available. However, if
you are in an area where Verizon offers Fios (based on fiber-optic lines)
you would want to consider the sacrifice in speed before switching.

Several good suggestions have been offered including several for getting a
free Web account in order to bypass Verizon. I would suggest going a step
further and establish one that offers POP3 and SMTP support. With this type
of account, you would be free to use Outlook Express or the e-mail client of
your choice for your e-mail and only use Verizon for the connection to the
Internet. Here are two that are free:

Gawab.com - 2048 MB FREE account:

HotPOP - 100 MB Mailbox - Home:

Subject: [PCSOFT] Server Problem

I was finally able to get a fast internet connection last June, 2004....it
is DLS with Verizon.net. Since I've had this service I've had problems
receiving PCBUILD and PCSOFT. The digests are often not received and I
receive a notice that I have been dropped from the list. I have called
Verizon many times and they want to blame anything and everything. But they
have not solved the problem. Finally I esculated this to Customer Relations
at Verizon and they have put me in touch with someone who will solve the
problem for me. The explanation I've received is that there is a "latency"
problem between the [log in to unmask] server and the Verizon
server and there is nothing they can do about it. I really don't understand
how this explains that very often I don't receive the digest(s) from the
group. Does anyone have advice or suggestions?
