Hi all
I recently had a situation where a rewritable CD would hang windows when
reading a certain directory. (I had to try several times to re-format it
but it is working fine now, so I don't think there's a hard error on the
disk.) It seems to me that there was a bad file allocation, possibly
cross-linked files.

Is there a utility that will scan a CD-RW for lost clusters and cross-linked
files, like scandisk for a FAT-disk? And while I'm asking, maybe defragment
as well?

Is this even possible? The risk of file alloc errors would make CD-RW not
such a good form of short-term backup.

(I have an HP CDWriter+. I'm hoping this is a generic CD-RW format issue …
but if it's hardware specific I'll go to HP.)

Thanks - Joe
