SPAM is unsolicited email,usually sent in attempt to extract  money
from you in some way.
The general rule is that you never respond, as you're only confirming
that the address is good. Spammers often send email in the blind,
hoping that some of their guesses are good, and they'll get a
respones, as they did in your case.
"Sue Epstein" is probably fictitious.
With Gmail, you just check off such emails and use the "report Spam"
icon at the top , and you won't hear from that address again.  Do this
often enough and you'll be basically free of SPAM.
