Hi Ann,
By default Outlook Express is set to add both the indent (vertical line "|")
and the indent with the "greater-than sign" (>) to your replies and
forwards. The setting for both is on the Send tab in Tools / Options under
Mail Sending Format. To change the settings, click the "HTML Settings..."
and the "Plain Text Settings..." buttons and uncheck the "Indent message on
reply" and "Indent the original text with" options respectively.
You'll need a third party program to clean those from an (original) e-mail
you've received. There's several available, here are a few:
Clipomatic - Freeware

Yankee Clipper III - Freeware

ClipMate - Shareware

Subject: [PCSOFT] Changing those ">" in email???
Somewhere I used some utility (that I cannot not now remember or find) that
changed the ">" in OE (on the existing message when I clicked "Reply" to a
message) to "|"
It also offered me the option to replace ">" with nothing (just delete
them), which I now regret not choosing. I have found other programs that
will remove the ">", but not at easily - whatever I did just made the
substitution automatically.
I looked at all the options I could find and could not locate anything. I
hope it was not done with TWEAKIU because I didn't like that program and
uninstalled it - it did all sorts of unexpected things, including
rearranging all my carefully arranged desktop icons everytime I tried to use
it.
Does anyone know how I can just have the ">" automatically deleted in my
email? or at least change the "|" back to ">" so I can delete it manually?
The "|" won't even delete manually.
Thanks, Ann Fennell
