Most .ini's are installed in their own program folders, so won't be lost in
a new Win reinstall. Saving the Win/system folder should retain most of the
others.
Win.ini and sys.ini (good point) should be taken care of by a proper system
of regular registry backups, for which I strongly recommend using ERU (free
from Microsoft or, I think, PCSoft archives), as this backs up these and
other important system files as well as the registry. Works well in Win 95,
98, and probably ME.
Does anyone know if ERU works with XP? Does XP still have User.dat and
System.dat?
See my tutorial on registry backups for more detailed info on this
important topic. It's saved my bacon on many occasions.
