Please note that a "work" is copyrighted AUTOMATICALLY when it is "published".  No formal action by the creator is required to claim copy rights.  Works can be "registered" with the US Copyright Office, but this is NOT required to be protected from any unathorized use or "stealing" as mentioned in the thread.  Moral: Always get permission before using something that you did not create.
