  Although Microsoft does not claim compliance for DOS and Win 3.x, and will
not be releasing any updates to make them compliant, it is doubtful that date-
based problems will interfere much with "word processing and some surfing".

  The one area of concern that springs to mind is that on some machines, the
code which initializes the system date/time from the real-time clock chip may
not be Y2K-safe.  If the system date is improperly initialized, she could
wind up with files with an assortment of wild dates.

  It doesn't sound like she's doing anything that could be hurt by
experimentally setting the date temporarily forward six months to see if
anything breaks.
