Another way of expressing this is that it is OK to leave them on your 
computer as long as you have ample HD space. These files really do not 
take up a lot of space. However, if your HD drive is running out of 
space and you are trying to free up some space, you can remove some of 
these files.

My understanding is that these files are there in case you want to 
uninstall one or more hot fixes/updates. As long as the associated 
update is running properly (not causing a problem), the uninstall 
information is not really needed. As long as you have SP2 installed and 
there are no issues, you can at least delete the uninstall folders of 
updates installed before installing SP2.
