Hi All.
I have learned so much from this list. Thanks for all the clues. I'm
sure I speak for many. I lerk most of the time becuase of lack of
know-how but today I must ask.
I was doing a dos scandisk and the program found a bad block and marked
it. I shut off the computer and restarted the computer. I found that
it would not boot to windows 95b. I rebooted and went to dos prompt and
can read the drive directory and seem to have most dos functions. I
then went to step-by-step confermation on the windows start-up menu. I
found that everything haults when I begin to process or load windows
drivers. I have tried to load in safe mode also. I get the same
error. Error is "error reading c drive, abort, retry, ignore, fail". If
I pick ignore it will continue to load but gives me another error " A
device file that is specified in system.ini file is damaged, it maybe
needed to run windows. You may need to run the windows setup program
again. On a line by itsself is reads "VSD" Next line "press a key to
continue" If I press I get the same message again except the line by
itself reads "v86mmgr". It ask me to press a key to continue but the
keyboard and control-alt-del don't work. System lock-up.
I looked in the Bootlog.txt and things fail at trying to load these two
files. I guess they are files? I have other computers. I can't find
these files. What are they (VSD and v86mmgr)? Can I replace them from
another system?
