Getting the menu bar away from the top in the first place involved dragging
it downward by a couple of slim, vertical bars at its left end. The first
result was that the menu bar itself was reoriented to lie vertically on the
left side of the window. When I drag that vertical bar to the right, it
turns horizontal, and has a little title bar of its own (like a dialog
box). Then I drag it by *that* title bar until it's overlaying the title
bar of Word's window -- and voila! The menu bar reappears in its usual
place.
