Hi Diane

It sounds like you need to type cast your text field.  You need to create an
expression that converts the text to a number using the long number type.
In the query design mode, in one of the blank fields, type

EXPR1:val([textfieldname].value

where textfieldname is the name of the field that you are trying to sum.
This will create a numerical value of the text field. [Read the help file
about type conversions for more about this.  If the val() method does not
work, try the
CDbl() method.]

Once you have this field, then you should be able to sum it or perform other
arithmetic operations on it.
