From your mention of the Start Button, I am
assuming you have Win95/95a OR Win95B-C/98.

Sounds almost like you are booting with an old
"floppy", or other "boot" device that was written
on a different machine, (and ~may~ not be complete).
That would account for at least the config.sys errors,
and be the easiest answer...

First remove the disks from all your removable drives.
Turn off machine, re-boot.
See if that helps.

If not, it would seem your system files have taken
some sort of "a hit" some how.
Does your hard drive use any "disk management" software?
Examples: EZ Drive, Disk Manager, etc.
If so, you might have a drive overlay problem.
In that case, stop and get more detailed advise.

Try the Emergency Start Up Disk YOU made for THIS system.
(More below.) If you don't have one, continue.

If you still get the command.com error, try typing in the
PATH to your command.com file.

Several common locations are:
C:\command.com --- (this should have worked already...)
C:\windows\command.com
C:\your windows directory\command.com

If you can get the system running, I would take a new
blank floppy and immediately make a new emergency start
up disk. (You did not have one did you?)
You will need the Win95 CD handy, unless the ".cab" files
are on the hard drive, and Windows can find them.
Hit Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs,
Startup Disk, Create Disk.

If you did have YOUR start up disk, and it started YOUR system,
I would SYS the boot drive.
Caution: This must ONLY be done with the version of the Operating
System you are using on your drive now. Win95/95a OR Win95B-C/98.

If none of the above helps, write back and let us know.
Send EVERYTHING to the list. (You can CC: me if you want.)

Good luck. Rick Glazier
