Hi Temple,

I have had what you describe happen to me many times. I've about concluded
that it's a flaw in Direct CD. You didn't indicate if you have Easy CD
Creator Basic or the Platinum version, but I suggest you go to Roxio's site
for updates (http://www.roxio.com/en/support/software_updates.jhtml) and
update to version 5.3.5.10. It would help to know your operating system
also.

Here are suggestions for what you might try:

1. If the update didn't solve the problem, try un-installing Easy CD Creator
and them re-install it with the updates.

2. Even though it didn't work for you, trying the CD-RW disk on another
computer has worked for me at times.

3. A technique that many times will solve problems like this and others is
to shutdown the computer, then unplug the power cord from the computer (not
the wall outlet or a surge protector, etc.) for 10+ minutes. Then plug the
power cord back in and re-start the computer.

4. Try another packet writing program such as Ahead's InCD if you know
someone who uses Nero. It's compatable with Direct CD disks but both won't
install on the same computer. You might think about trying Ahead's new fully
functional Nero 6 demo download here:
http://www.nero.com/en/631934351031098.html.

If, and when, you are able to read the CD, copy it to the computer and put
the pictures on a data CD using a CD-R disk. CD-R disks are cheaper than
dirt (on sale with rebates). Make back-up copies of all your CD-R/RW disks,
especially if it's your only copy.

Another thing you should consider is installing a second hard drive and use
it to store all your personal stuff in case something (???) happens to the
(C:) drive with Windows on it. They are inexpensive too, you can pick up a
40 GB hard drive (HD) for as low as $39.99 on sale with rebates.

I presently have four hard drives (360 GB total) on a system I built and
there's nothing on the "C" drive (the 40 GB HD) but Windows. Everything else
is on one of the other HDs... and yes, I have tons of MP3s... :-) I also
use Second Copy 2000 to copy folders/files, and update them at intervals, to
an 80 GB external HD. You can check it out here:
http://www.wugnet.com/shareware/spow.asp?ID=347.

I hope you find some of this useful.

Subject: CD-RW Problem

I had saved a lot of pictures on a CD-RW. The CD had worked fine every =
time I viewed it until this week. I put the CD in and it shows the =
folder but AutoPlay comes on and searches for files and only shows one =
small file (just a few kb's in size) and I got the following messages:

 One message says:=20
Direct CD 5.2.0.91=20
The requested files could not be read from the CD in Drive E. It is =
recommended to copy any critical files on this CD to a new CD=20

The second message was:

E:\ is not accessible. The volume for a file has been externally =
deleted so that the opened file is no longer valid.=20

In My Computer under Details (for this drive) it says:=20

Beckett [E] =20
CD Drive=20
File System CDUDFRW=20
Free Space 561 MB=20
Total Size 571 MB=20

(this would lead me to believe the picture files are still on the cd =
since it is saying there=20
                                    are 10 MB used).=20

Any suggestions? I have tried the CD on another computer and got the =
same messages. By the way, the CD couldn't not have become damaged =
because it was stored in a case in my CD file as always, and I had just =
viewed it the day before and it was fine.
