A quick experiment showed that I can put both the name and address in the
"to" field.
This doesn't affect the actual e-mail address to which the message is sent.
Why would anyone wish to do this?

This is one that keeps coming up. Outlook Express only displays a
sendee's name in the "To" field rather than either the sendee's address
or both the address and the name
