I also had this problem but, my AVG FREE anti-virus program did detect a
Koobface worm but couldn't remove it entirely. I'd remove it but it
would be back on next boot up so, I also used Malwarebytes in the same
exact procedure you describe. The worm was too new for Malwarebytes to
remove but, eventually, over a 4 day period, one of Malwarebytes updates
enabled it to remove the worm and my laptop has been running ok for over
a year since.
