John,
I believe your question is a little too specialized for this list. May I suggest posting your question to a Novell GroupWise list. The "best" GroupWise list around can be found at http://www.ngwlist.com Subscribe there and then post your question and I'm sure you'll receive assistance in solving your problem.

Subject: GroupWise 5.5
Hi,
(GroupWise 5.5 running on NetWare 5.0 platform).
The async.db file is corrupt (in the async folder) on our GroupWise system.
The suggested "queue maintenance" and a rebuild of the async database does
not work and it says that the file is locked or in use. This is despite
closing down the async gateway and I have also tried it with GroupWise
completely closed down. I can not rename or delete async.db despite trying
it from DOS etc. Removing the Async gateway object using NetWare
Administrator also fails (fails when it attempts to delete the existing
file structure). Creating a new async.db fails for the same reason
I have also tried to restore a "good" version of async.db from tape. The
restore appears to be successful but it does not overwrite the old (corrupt)
async.db
How can I delete or clobber the async.db file?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
John
