You sound like a perfect candidate for the DivX format - it is possible to
compress a DVD movie from over 6gigabyte in data down to around 700meg and get
very good video and audio quality in the process - two web sites have good
tutorials and the software needed to accomplish this - the learning curve is a
little steep and the programs require experimentation, however once you have
done a project and gotten good results as I have I think you will be pleased
you tried it. The DivX codec is a hacked version of the Microsoft codec (you
can also download the Microsoft Encoder Tools if you want to stay legal) - the
program I recommend is AVIUtil using the Lotus M4C plugin - I use this to
archive some videos I have and when done right the video is very good, the
audio suffers only because I choose to store a whole 2+hour movie on one CD, if
you want to use two CD's you can use a better audio codec (you could probably
fit a 2hour movie with highquality audio into a 1.5gig size file no problem).
The two websites you will want to check are http://doom9.org/ and
www.divx-digest.com. Have fun and Good Luck.
