OEM = "original equipment manufacturer"
OEM software is software to be used by the (original) manufacturer of the
computer. In the case of OEM Windows, it is intended to be used on one
computer and has a license to run only on that computer. So, if your are
building a computer and spend about $90 for OEM Windows, that is fine. But
if you start replacing parts left and right, you "may" lose your rights. On
the other hand, if you spend about $200 for the non-OEM Windows, you
"should" be able to move it from one computer to another. This is
particularly important to those of us who have one computer for which
upgrading is a continual, never-ending process.
