This is for the Linux gurus. I just installed RH 7.2 on my machine and have
two problems (for me).

1. It always starts in GUI mode (GNOME) - How can I force it to remain in
text mode? I know how to use the terminal window, and it works fine, but how
do I get out of GUI if I want to?

2. How do I configure the screen display resolution? Is there a utility to
do so, or do I need to manually edit the configuration file?

Thank you for any help you can offer - likely this is a Mark Rhode
assignment ;)

Not really a linux guru, but you can accomplish the first by changing the
run level from 5 to 3 in /etc/inittab. There should be a line that looks
like id:5:initdefault. Change this 5 to 3.
The second can be done by running the Xconfigurator in a terminal (I don't
think it is is the Gnome program menu) and following along to verify your
video and display setup. HTH
