Stephen,
I believe your only option is to open the case and look at the drive. Many
(but not all) drives from that era had the drive geometry (settings) printed
on the label. If not, then you will need the brand and model # so that you
can look it up on the maker's web site (hopefully they still maintain data
on old equipment).
