Hi Glenn,

Peter Hogan is right, that is the most amiable way to do it.
But it should be done on the husband's account.(obviously :) )
The husband's account will then show on the Welcome screen -as still
logged in - but the wife's account will be available for her to login.

Another (more forceful) way is to use WinExit. This is a screensaver that
logs off a account after a set interval.
WinExit is part of the Windows Server 2000 Resource Kit Tools.
How To Force Users to Quit Programs and Log Off After a Period of
Inactivity in Windows XP

Original M$ URL for Windows Server 2000 (no longer available)
See http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=11050

Instead use this URL http://www.petri.co.il/download_free_reskit_tools.htm
Scroll down to WinExit and download.
Extract the WinExit.scr to the \WINDOWS folder.

Note 1.:In this case both users should have administrative rights,
since it will not work on a subordinate user account.
See http://winonline.blogspot.com/2006/01/winexitscr-permissions.html

Note 2.:Using the forced log off will cause unsaved documents to be
lost, unless an automatic saving feature has been implemented.

Hi, Right click on an empty spot of the desktop, and choose
"Properties". That will bring up Display Properties, then click on the
Screensaver tab. You want to check the box that says "On resume,
password protect" (you'll need to choose a screensaver other than
"none" for the box to become un-greyed). Also set the delay time for
the screensaver to kick in.

Hi All, I have a client with XP home box with 2 users (Husband and
Wife). User A says if she has been idle for a while, Windows logs her
off automatically and returns to the Welcome screen. (not locked and
needs password but actually to the welcome screen). This does not
happen for user 2. And she would like it to.
Anyone know how to get this desired affect.
I can't find a Tick for it. Tried google and found answers to every
user question except this one. I know it's trivial but shes tired of
husband leaving his profile running and having to close his programs,
log him off and use "fast user switching" to go to her profile. Thanks
in advance for any help. Glenn Bennington
