Hello Jim,
continuing this interesting discussion, here's the comments:
JM> And that's why I've been asking Kevin to supply some URLs so I/we can see
JM> what areal world GoLive page looks like. It is like the old saying that "a
JM> picture is worth a thousand words" I can read all day but seeing the
JM> finished product is much more enlightening. <grin>
If GoLive! is of any good, you will not be able to distinguish between
pages made with it from made with Notepad - I mean professional work.
The editor must be unobtrusive. If the designer is forced to change
something because editor does not allows him to do so (as Netscape
Composer, for example, with some table constructions and his urge to
insert   everywhere), it is time to waste the editor - as you say,
"Hello uninstaller, bye editor". Consequently, all those "Anyone can
make his home page in 10 minutes!" editors can be recognized by a
glance, because they offer a rigid template. A _good_ editor can not
be recognized. Only by directly studying the code, the editor
sometimes can be identified (if GENERATOR and FORMATTER meta tags were
removed).
The conclusion : if you can identify pages made with GoLive! at a
glance, steer clear.
JM> There were many different blank gifs used. IMG SRC tags used names
JM> beginning with blank1.gif all the way up to blank33.gif. Which is why I
JM> assumed that it created many different sized images. I tried viewing
JM> several of those gif files to see what was different, but it is hard to see
JM> a file that is a ....... blank...... gif. <grin>
It is a variation of the better method when only one 1x1 GIF
is used and his dimensions are set by HEIGHT and WIDTH tags (and
browser resizes the GIF accordingly).
