You did not say which version of OE you use, but I think they are all the
same in this aspect.

I think you only have two choices.

The easiest/simplest thing may be to import the old messages into the new
settings.
Click FILE -- IMPORT -- MESSAGES -- OE and then follow the directions.
Then do the same thing for the ADDRESS BOOK.

Your other option is to EXPORT the newest messages, then delete the new .mbx
and .idx files.  Copy the old files to the new folder and then restart OE.
It should pick up right where you left off yesterday.  Then you can IMPORT
the newer messages.
